Brazil, March 17-22, 2017

The Tropical Forest Alliance is a public-private partnership to advance implementation of the Consumer Goods Forum pledge to zero net deforestation in supply chains by 2020. The Second Annual General Assembly meeting was held in Brasilia for partners to meet and discuss voluntary actions to reduce the tropical deforestation associated with palm oil, beef, soy, and pulp and paper.

The general assembly kicked off with field visits to projects in the region, including our parent company Athelia Climate Fund’s Novo Campo sustainable cattle ranching and restoration project in the Mato Grosso state of Brazil.

And on International Forest Day the assembly was open to the public for information sharing sessions and plenaries discussing what has worked so far and the many enduring challenges to achieving deforestation free supply chains within the 2020 timeline.

Kate Dillon Levin, Ecosphere+ VP of Marketing and Sales for North America, Andrew Mitchell, Ecosphere+ Senior Advisor (and Founder of the Global Canopy Programme), and Edit Kiss, Director of Business Development and Operations for Althelia, attended the TFA 2020 General Assembly.

Our team hosted a side-event on how land based mitigation activities can help advance zero net deforestation targets as well as mature markets for sustainable land use activities.
